24 May

A lot of people don’t know what Champagne is. Champagne is a type of sparkling wine which got its name from the region, in France, where it is produced.  Sparkling wine made only in this region is allowed to be called as Champagne. It is because of the fact that only France follows the strict rules to make such type of the wine. And, thus, it cannot be produced of a same quality elsewhere. And even if the same process of making champagne is used in other parts of the world, then it is referred to as Sparkling wine rather than Champagne.

No other produce of the world, can taste like Champagne because that is how champagne is produced, under strict conditions, in France.

There are many types of champagne of many different varieties and brand like pink, french Champagne, brut champagne, crystal champagne, korbel champagne, sweet champagne. But for the sake of ease and simplicity, they are categorized into 5 different categories.

  1. Brut is a very dry champagne and thus it is not considered sweet. Top brands such as Moet et Chandon and Bollinger all have their own varieties of Brut champagne. It is the most popular type of champagne, and it has a very high demand. It is also very expensive and is used for a very special occasion such as wedding or birthday parties. It can also be given as a gift on the above occasions.
  2. Extra Dry champagne is a bit sweeter than Brut, and thus it is not as dry as brut is.
  3. Sec Champagne is sweeter than extra dry Champagne. Demi-Sec is a type of sec Champagne, and is much sweeter than sec Champagne. Doux champagne is the sweetest Champagne. But this type of Champagne is very difficult to find as it is not so popular among people.
  4. Rosé champagne, not just have the sweet fragrance of rose, but is considered as one of the sweetest and juiciest Champagne of the world. It is generally made up of grapes, and some producers even customize the taste as per the likings of their users.

In addition to the above types, Champagne can also be categorized as two different varieties, such as, Vintage and Non-vintage.

  1. Vintage champagne is made up of grapes, which producers feels are of particularly good quality. It is made up of grapes harvested for 1 year, and thus 80 percent of the total volume of this Champagne is made up of grapes harvested for at least 1 year, and should also be matured for 3 years before releasing the Champagne. This makes the Champagne very expensive and very special too.
  2. Non-vintage champagne is far more widely available as it is created using grapes harvested from a number of different years.

Champagne is often used to celebrate or mark a special occasion. It also makes a brilliant gift for someone who is celebrating something. Be it a wedding or your friend’s birthday, Champagne bottle  can be given as a special gift to your special friend.
